Frequently asked questions
It’s best to have a good meal within a few hours of your appointment, and make sure you bring a government issued photo ID with you to every appointment. Drink plenty of water, and if you need a moral support person, feel free to bring one. Also, be prepared to talk about cats.
I offer all ear piercings, anatomy depending (some just don’t work for everyone). Nostril piercings, eyebrow piercings, lip piercings and tongue piercings (again, this one depends on anatomy). I also offer navel piercings (anatomy again!), nipple piercings and vulva piercings.
I don’t offer surface piercings or microdermals, I’ve just seen too many issues with migration to feel good about doing them. I don’t offer septum piercings: nothing against them, they are lovely, they just aren’t my favourite to do. I don’t offer earlobe piercings under 8 years old, that’s just the sweet spot I’ve found that makes the piercing a happy experience for everyone. I don’t offer frenulum piercings or tongue tip piercings, they are just too dangerous for your gums and teeth. I don’t offer penile piercings; again, nothing against them, they just aren’t my preference to do.
I offer children’s lobes at 8 years and older. That seems to be the sweet spot for me with kids, where they have a good comprehension of aftercare, and the process tends to go happily and with as few tears as possible. If you have a nervous little one, I always recommend booking a consultation first. It’s just a visit to the studio without the pressure of anything happening that day. Coming to a studio for the first time can be a little overwhelming, so it’s nice to give them the space to meet me, look at jewelry and see where their piercing is going to be done. It tends to help things go a lot more smoothly on the big day!
It’s actually a violation of my insurance to pierce with outside jewelry! The jewelry I use has to meet a variety of standards to be considered implant grade and meet ASTM compliance. The quality of the jewelry used in your fresh piercing is extremely important to ensure that it heals well, so I can’t risk piercing with anything that I can’t verify the quality of.
I don’t offer piercings to anyone who is pregnant or within their first 6 months of giving birth. Your body is going through incredible hormone fluctuations, exhaustion, literally building a tiny human! It can be extremely hard on a piercing, and successful healing is very unlikely. There is also a risk of transferring an infection to your little one, which is 100% not worth the risk. I’m not going anywhere, and I’ll be here when your body is ready.
I offer earlobe piercings at 8 years and older. Nostril piercings and simple cartilage piercings can be done at 12 and older. Navel and eyebrow piercings are done at 16 and older: they are piercings that can migrate, so, if you’re still growing, your body can reject the piercing. Oral piercings are done at 16 or older: they come with a little bit more risk and some more involved aftercare. Nipple and vulva piercings are 18 and older.
A little bit, yes! I do my best to make the piercing as quick and gentle as possible, and the most common thing I hear afterwards is “that hurt so much less than I thought!”.
Unfortunately, numbing creams can cause the skin to distort, meaning that I can’t ensure that your piercing will be straight if numbing cream is applied. They also only affect the top layer of the skin, so they don’t offer much help for piercings.
For minors under 16, a birth certificate, healthcare card, immigration status card, indigenous status card, learners license, nexus card or passport are acceptable. The accompanying parent must also provide photo ID.
At 16 or older, you must provide a government issued photo ID; learners or drivers license, passport, nexus card, immigration status card, indigenous status card, or a firearms license are all acceptable.
Yes! I understand that changing your own body jewelry can be difficult, if not impossible, and I’m always happy to assist you. I charge $10 for this service.
If you have been advised that your jewelry needs to be removed for a medical procedure such as surgery or an MRI, I can assist you with removal and re-insertion, and retainers are available for purchase at the studio if you have newer piercings or piercings that aren’t fully healed.
Absolutely! The titanium that I use is ASTM F-136 certified implant grade titanium, which means it meets very strict standards regarding both the materials and polish. All of the gold that I carry is 14k or 18k and completely nickel free. I only work with the most well respected manufacturers on the continent, who take as much pride in how they manufacture their pieces, as I do in providing them to my clients.
I recommend 8 weeks before you submerge your new piercing in any standing water; this includes lakes, rivers, oceans, swimming pools, baths and hot tubs. The risk of infection is much higher within this timeframe, and submerging your piercing is a very quick way to get an infection. Not worth the risk!
Book a consultation! I’m always happy to have a look at your piercing and offer advice, whether I pierced you or not. While I can’t diagnose an infection, I can definitely advise if an adjustment in your aftercare will help, or if a visit to the doctor is your best course of action.
